2021 Lenten Guide

Operation Rice Bowl

Our parish will participate in Operation Rice Bowl, a program of Catholic Relief Services, again this Lent. Cardboard rice bowls are available in the gathering space for you to take home to collect your donations for those less fortunate and return during Holy Week.

Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross will be celebrated on each of the Fridays of Lent at 7:00 p.m. in the church (except Good Friday). Fr. Ghiloni and Deacon Byron will offer reflections each week on one of The Seven Last Words of Christ.

Reflection Booklets

There are a variety of Lenten Reflection booklets available in the gathering space for you to take for you and your family.

40 Days of Adoration

Bishop Robert Brennan calls upon the Diocese of Columbus to celebrate Jesus Christ’s Real Presence in Eucharist in a special way this Lent. Starting on Ash Wednesday, February 17, the diocese will launch 40 Days of Adoration. Every day for 40 days, a different parish throughout the Diocese will host Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration throughout the day. Ascension will have Adoration on Sunday, February 28th from 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm. Calendars are available in the gathering space.

Soup Suppers

Due to Covid restrictions, we will not be hosting Soup Suppers this year.

Penance

There will not be a formal Penance Service this year; Fr. Ghiloni will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the following times:

  • Sunday, February 28th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm
  • Wednesday, March 3rd from 5:00 – 6:15 pm
  • Wednesday, March 10th from 5:00 – 6:15 pm
  • Wednesday, March 17th from 5:00 – 6:15 pm
  • Saturdays of Lent from 2:30 – 3:15 pm, or anytime by appointment.

Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021

  • Mass on Saturday April 3 at 4:00 pm.
  • Mass on Sunday, April 4 at 8:30 and 11:00 am.

Holy Thursday, April 1, 2021

Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:00 pm. Donations of boxed and canned foods Food Pantry may be left in the baskets in the gathering space. Operation Rice Bowl donations may be left in the box in the gathering space. The Eucharistic Chapel will be available for Eucharistic Adoration in Classrooms 5, 6, 7 & 8 immediately following Mass until 10:00 pm.

Good Friday, April 2, 2021

Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 9:00 am.

Celebration of the Passion and Death of Our Lord Veneration of the Cross at 3:00 and 7:00 pm.

Holy Saturday, April 3, 2021

  • Office of Readings and Morning Prayer at 9:00 am.
  • Easter Vigil Mass at 8:30 pm.

Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021

  • Mass at 8:30 am.
  • Mass at 11:00 am.

Fasting and Abstinence

The following regulations of fast and abstinence provide an opportunity to be united to the entire Church in offering special prayer:

Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence for people 14 years of age and older. Flesh meat is not to be eaten on these days. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are also days of fast for people between the ages of 18 and 59. On these days, one full meal is permitted along with two meals of lesser quantity.
