Welcome to Church of the Ascension

Dear Parishioners of Ascension,

It is so good to finally be with you! I am excited that Ascension is my first pastorate and look forward to serving you for the next several years.

I was ordained a priest in 2016 after studying for 9 years at the Pontifical College Josephinum. There I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Philosophy, and a Master’s Degree in Divinity.

I may be young, but I am well-seasoned. My first assignment was in Portsmouth, Ohio, serving a total of 6 parishes, as well as a Grammar and High School. Following 2 years there, I was assigned to St. Joan of Arc in Powell, one of the largest parishes in the diocese, where I have served for the past 3 years.

I grew up in Marion, Ohio and the majority of my immediate family still remains there. I enjoy spending time with my parents, 3 sisters, and 10 nieces and nephews during my downtime - over the years, I am sure you will have the opportunity to meet many of them!

I am excited to see what God has planned for us as a parish community! May we all be docile to the will of God and work as a people of faith to bring forth the love of the Gospel.

I ask that as we all begin this new journey together, that you pray for each other, and especially for me. I promise I will be remembering each of you in my daily prayers.

May God Bless You,
Fr. Stephen Smith
Pastor
